1. Last night, on an Oscars telecast that you could have easily confused for the Tony Awards if there’d been just a tiny bit more Patti LuPone, Les Miz was front and center. Theater people went nuts. Even non-theater people noticed what was up. Obsessed with Les Miz as we are, we thought it was worth a quick round up…

  2. DEAD AARONJOLRAS ALL DEFENESTRATED LIKE WHAT

  3. Caught in the Act with… Aaron Tveit
Broadway fans know and love Aaron from musicals like Next to Normal and Catch Me If You Can. And TV fans may recognize him as Trip van der Bilt on Gossip Girl. But the whole entire world is about to get a big old glimpse of our favorite leading man this Christmas when he graces the silver screen as swoon-worthy student revolutionary Enjolras in Les Miserables. On one of his rare days off from filming his new TV show Graceland, Tveit took the time to chat with us. Topics covered include: Enjolras’ ferociousness and chastity, his new West End friends, and his ‘awesome’ very first car. Here’s how it all went down…

  4. Outtake #2 from our Aaronjolras (Aaron Tveit…) interview…

Here’s another piece that ended up on the cutting room floor. Check out The Craptacular tomorrow morning for much more. Like, 2500 words more.

We asked Aaron about his Broadway crushes. As one does…

M: Okay, I would like you to name six Broadway crushes – three girls and three guys.

A: Let’s see. Caissie Levy. She’s been a friend of mine for a long, long time and I just think she is so dynamite and has a voice like I’ve never heard before. Rachelle Rak, just because I worked with her in Catch Me If You Can and she’s the coolest and she’s so in the fabric of Broadway and I just think she’s such a solid person. I was kind of obsessed with her when we worked together. And Patti LuPone, man. I just think she is everything that someone in the theater should strive to be. For guys, I think it’s no secret that I have a huge man crush on my main man Norbert Leo Butz. I have a huge admiration crush on Mandy Patinkin. Let’s see, who else do I really admire? Maybe somebody like Boyd Gaines, in the sense that he’s been able to do this forever. I want to do this the rest of my life, so I really admire people who have made a real career out of it.

  5. Heeeeey… Outtake #1 from our Aaron Tveit Interview…

Here’s a cool thing: We interviewed Aaron Tveit. For real. The whole thing will go live on The Craptacular tomorrow morning. But here’s an outtake to get you through the night…

Check out what Aaron said about working on the Les Miz set…

M: Do you have a favorite barricade story?

A: The coolest was when we built the barricade. It was a whole street that they built inside at Pinewood Studios. Those buildings are four or five stories high, but the first floors and the second floors were completely dressed and decorated. It was so realistic.

And we would shoot five- and six-minute takes with seven cameras running. And in this scene, Tom Hooper was like ‘Build a barricade.’ And we were like, ‘Wait, what are you talking about?’ And he’s like, ‘Go into all the buildings, rip down anything you can, and build a barricade.’

It was a Friday night, the last shot of the day, and they were going to film us building this barricade and then they had a fixed barricade that they were going to bring in on the weekend. So anyway, we do this scene, and it’s madness. Like, I don’t understand how no one got hurt with all this shit flying. And it was so exhilarating. And our barricade was so good that over the weekend, they just strengthened it. And that’s what’s in the film — the barricade is what we built on camera.

  6.  Fear not, Broadway, we’ve got your back. Because we are your people. And we adore Aaron Tveit, and Enjolras – a character Broadway loved hard enough to award a Tony (forget that Marius guy) – just as much as you do. We know what you want to know.

  7. Oh, Aaronjolras. You and your high-waisted finery.
